Just FYI, spring is right around the corner....so as far as "style" is concerned, there should be two things to start looking for....

1. Winter Sales
They are huge right now! For example I just bought an Express black winter coat for $30 from the local designer consignment store that was $198 new with tags!!! Stores are desperate to get rid of winter merchandise to make room for the spring lines....so jump on it!

2. Easter Clothes
I know, I know, Easter??!! Not clothes for you, those are easy to find, but yes, believe it or not, if you have more than one kid and you like to coordinate their Easter clothing, now is the time to look. Otherwise, you will be out of luck. You may find one thing you like, but not find the coordinating piece for your other child. And if you like to live on the edge (like me for the last two years!) then wait and shop later. But this year I finally got smart and found the cutest sets that my kids can wear all spring, Easter and summer too! I had a coupon from Gymboree for 25% off and used it online and found these cute coordinates...

Love sharing happiness, heartache, and real life women's stories with other women. It's inspiring to know that we are all juggling each day the best we can...and in my opinion, there are many women out there who inspire me with their grace, heart, and attitude towards challenges in their lives.

You have to connect to Ashley's blog of Lil Blue Boo and read and see her story. She's an amazing DIY talent, but beyond that, she is battling cancer and a true inspiration in her "Choose Joy" campaign. Check out her video of when she shaves her head. Her mom also shaved her own head in support of her daughter. Amazing.

Resolutions...are you keeping yours?

Do you make New Year's Resolutions?? I have to be honest, I try to make them every year and this year I didn't really have any until a few days ago. My new years resolutions started on January 7th.

Three things:

1. Read through the Bible in one year.
{this has been a goal of mine for awhile and I found a great site to help me set up a reading plan for each day at YouVersion}....I'm a few days behind in my reading but would appreciate any support and am telling this to you for the accountability factor. This goal has been set before and not achieved, but I truly want to read through it entirely.

2. Year of Saving.
{Kind of like Giuliana and Bill's Year of Fun, except it's the Year of Saving. Sounds fun, right?} It's not easy, especially when you like to shop. ;) But this year, I'm trying to save more than we have in the past. With four kiddos to raise, we have our work cut out for us this year. But, one step at a time, my goal is to spend less, and save more.

Giuliana and Bill on "holiday" in Italy...now imagine me and Mr. Stylishly Ever After at home and this excited about our savings plan...hey, it can happen ;)

How does this translate into improving my wardrobe??..., well, my goal is to mix up my already purchased pieces with other pieces in my closet. Trying to put different pieces together. Inspiration recently is coming from magazine pics and I'm trying to match up similar outfits with what I already have in my closet. Waaahlah, an outfit is together without costing me a dime. Wish me luck ;)

And last but not least...#3. Transform our Eating Habits to more of a Clean Eating lifestyle. Learn more about that here. On our way to cutting out processed foods. And boy it's gonna be a "process".

These things are probably more goals than resolutions. Or maybe they are one in the same. Hopefully I can do some of them and attempt to make these changes that I desire. In the meantime, it's just takin' it one day at a time and remembering to be thankful for each day provided. Each day is a gift in itself. Psalm 118:24

When I was a child, my family and I would often travel to a small town called Spindale, NC where my grandparents lived. There was one drugstore, a few traffic lights, a recreation center and my sister and I loved every minute of it. We would walk to play tennis at the rec center and I always looked forward to a treat from the fountain at the drugstore.

Now, it was never a quick trip to the fountain because my grandmother had to introduce her granddaughters to everyone she knew, but that was alright with me because the ham & pineapple sandwich was worth every minute!

Ham and Pineapple?!! Yes, that's right. They put them on a pizza so why not a sandwich?

This week, I got the urge to create that sandwich and have eaten it two days in a row. It was delicious. (Now if I just had a flat panini press to squish it like they did in the drugstore, it would be perfect.)

Try to not turn up your nose before you try it!! It's a wonderful treat and here's how you make it...

Start with your ingredients...bread, sliced ham, sliced pineapple, cheddar cheese, & mayo (for real).
I toast the bread then melt the cheese and put it all together for a trip down memory lane and a yummo sandwich.

...it doesn't have to be shredded cheese, but that's all I had in the fridge...you do what you can to avoid going to the grocery store with four children in tow...

...and yet again..I prefer using sliced pineapple, but this was all that was available...it works just as well ;)

Anyone ever tried one of these?? Or do you have any odd sandwich combinations that you would like to share? {like adding potato chips to give it some crunch,...I may or may not do this on a regular basis...hee hee} I would love to hear them!

Making it work with style: 3 boys share a room

Something about beginning a new year that gets me super pumped to re-do those rooms in my house that I've been frustrated with for awhile.

Currently my boys are sharing a room and we have had everything from a double bed and crib to one bunk bed set and crib in it. I couldn't stand the look of it every time I walked in. A blue wall with mis-matched beds drove me crazy. Hey, don't judge, when you live and work at home, it's the little things that start to drive you insane.

{Sorry for the dark, messy pic, but this was all I could find on the computer and it makes a mess to rearrange their clothes...it is what it is. Real life.}

So, with a small budget, I started to research some possibilities.

My goal was to create a personal space for each of them. Hence, each one having his own bed. Each one of them having his own space for cards, drawings, special items etc.

With that I went to work and found twin bed frames from Target that matched the baby's crib. Then proceeded to Serena & Lily to get coordinating bedding for each bed. The styles match and each boy gets his own colors.

Then the walls were painted a neutral shade, Laura Ashley Stone, that gave the small room an organized, clean look.

And, yes you can have three beds in a small room!! Go for it. Mr. Stylishly Ever After wasn't too sure about it, but I loooove it and all they do is sleep in there. It gives the room a cozy, cottage look...

Next up, I found these "oh so cute, but boyish" chicken wire boards that can be used above each bed as a memo board....Hoping to order those soon...

By now, I'm sure if you have children, many of you have discovered that a little elf is finding his/her way into your home and reappearing in different places each morning after reporting to Santa about the behavior of the household for that day.

This is a new tradition at our house, and it actually has worked wonders this year. As we read the book to our kids this year, the elf magically escaped from the box and perched himself on top of a ledge in our kitchen.

Our elf's name is Elfis. {Kind of like a tribute to Elvis} He is quiet, not too mischievous and loves to make the kids guess where he's going to be each morning. I too wonder what he will do to find another place to hide. That's when I decided to look towards what those other elves may be doing...

Every year, it's time to find my kiddos a fresh pair of slippers. As the year goes by, their feet grow and for some reason, the once "indoor" shoes become "walk to the mailbox" shoes, which soon destroys them. For these reasons, I choose not to invest our entire life savings into slippers that will not last.

Typically, powder rooms are a small bathroom used by guests to freshen up, and offer the perfect opportunity for touching up one's make up. Now that it's the holiday season, you'll want to keep your guests in mind when decorating your powder rooms. I hope you enjoy these examples!

This powder room is super eclectic and feminine. The bright pink wallpaper, zebra skin rug and animal statues are fun and funky, while plenty of mirrors allow for freshening up your hair and makeup.

Elegance defines this vanity section of the powder room. The sparkling silver and gold accents add a touch of class and matching lamps with chic striped shades help complete the symettrical layout.

This fresh and floral powder room offers plenty of light with several delicate wall sconces and mirrors. The tapestry skirted chair is so feminine and inviting, as is the bouquet of pink flowers.

Perhaps a bit overboard with pale grey and blue floral wallpaper, this room is %100 elegant and feminine. The vanity provides such a perfect space for pampering and preening.

Black and white wallpaper and matching marble floor and countertop make this powder room positively dramatic. Feather flourish details and a pop of bright pink from a single flower are very chic touches.

This powder room takes a more understated approach to creating an elegant space. Neutral tones and subtly striped painted walls are lovely when paired with fresh pink flowers and a dramatic dark chair.

Mirrored walls are so fitting for a powder room. The slender cherry branch wall paper is a delicate, feminine touch, while the sparkling light fixture is simply gorgeous.

A deep blue wall color can actually make a room feel more spacious. The white marble sink and intricate gold detailing on the mirror are rich, elegant details that make this powder room feel regal.

Well, I have an exciting opportunity that has come my way that I would love to share with ya'll. I've recently become an accessories buyer for GiGi's Boutique Fine Consignment and would love your input on some pieces that I've chosen. Wow...okay, I don't know about you all, but last week was a whirlwind of a week with Halloween festivities, school conferences, baby showers, etc. I found myself congested with a head cold by the end of the week and am just now on the road to recovery. Sometimes in my attempt to keep balance in home, school and extra curricular activities, I'm still exhausting myself by thinking I can do it all. And last week was just a reminder to myself that I can't. So thankful to be reminded of that.

Anyway, so here are my little trick or treaters....

And currently, I'm thinking about changing some more things at home and in my wardrobe. Specifically adding beds (that actually match) to the boys room ...they share a room and it needs to be organized and redone.

Halloween Five Layer Dip

Once again, thanks to Pinterest, I've found an idea for a seven layer dip that I made for a Halloween Bash.

Five Layer Dip for Halloween

Not sure what happened, but everytime I clicked to find the original source, it wouldn't bring it up. So the closest source I could find was Frost Me Blog. I had to tweek it a bit because I could not find all of the ingredients/instructions online, so I will tell you exactly what I did. Also, I call mine the Five Layer Dip, because I didn't use more layers than that!

Ingredients:
Refried Beans
Mexican Cheese Blend
Diced Tomatoes
Mild Taco Seasoning
Guacamole
Sour Cream
Plastic Spider
Black Plastic Cauldron for Chips (found at Party City)

Directions:
Mix Refried Beans with Taco Seasoning..Put as first layer on tray.
Then add drained diced tomatoes on top.
Next add shredded cheese then guacamole.
Finally with an icing bag, pipe sour cream over layered dip to look like a web.
Add a plastic spider.
Put chips in a plastic cauldron beside tray.

You are ready to party!!

Thinking about the new Jennifer Lopez line at Kohl's today. Now, I'm not a big Kohl's shopper...the racks are close together (not conducive to pushing a stroller around) and inevitably a baby is pulling on clothes while I'm trying to shop, and to be honest I haven't really found great deals there. Decorating for Fall/Halloween: Part 2

Okay, well after an interesting ~~struggle~~ experiment with the stenciling on a round and rippled surface this is what I came up with....

It may not be as pretty as the other pumpkin tower, but my kids are very proud! They came home excited to see me doing this little crafty project and proceeded to ask when they could do something too. So, next we are going to work on a cute little snack meal for the kids that they can help me make. Who says you can't play with your food??

Well, it's that time of year, the air is cool and I'm beginning to see pumpkin decor everywhere! This year I'm trying a new little craft that I found on the blog called ReInvented. She had a cute little pumpkin/funkin display that I thought I could try....

So I went to Hobby Lobby this morning, picked up a few orange funkins {at 40% off, so now is a good time to buy} and some acrylic paint markers and am going to attempt this today. Part 2 (the finished product) will be up for viewing tomorrow...{don't expect it to look as good as the one pictured, I'm not a skilled stencil person}
And hopefully the end result will be something I can put on the front porch. If not, maybe at least the back porch...ha.

I'm also really digging the lantern style chandelier and now want to replace our cheapo dome light with something like this. Wish I could snap my fingers and make it happen.

I definitely don't claim to be the end all to fashion knowledge and that fact proved to be true this morning, when I was browsing through the local Target and people were rushing in to find that the big Missoni arrival launch was already sold out. I even had to ask a sales associate, "what did I miss?". Haha.

I had a chance to run into Target this past weekend and found a few items that I thought I would share....

The red patent flats were too cute to pass up and for $14.99, they are a steal of a deal. These will be perfect for the fall with skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans and skirts. Check your local stores, b/c right now they are sold out online.

Now it's also time to change up our accessories a bit or add to our collection. I don't know about you, but after spending most of my money on school supplies and kids lunch box items, I'm running a little short on extra cash for jewelry...so I hit up the jewelry aisle and found a great long necklace and cute bangle. Worth a Try...

This past weekend, my husband and I were out of town for a friend's wedding, so we didn't have any children to worry about (thank you to my sweet babysitter and good friend!) as we explored some stores in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. They have a precious Main Street with cute little shops, restaurants, and even a Mast General Store. Definitely worth a weekend get-away!

Farmers Market on Main Street, so fun!! They had fresh bread, produce, flowers and coffee....love.

So, typically I walk right by a boutique because I usually like to avoid any stares or hovering by the sales associates when I walk in with four children. I'm sure their concern is heightened by the possibility of something getting ruined by ice cream stained faces or hands. But this weekend, I had the chance to eat dinner out without looking at a kids menu and stop in a few shops that I wouldn't dare approach with four kids in tow.

Not my idea of fun, but I have been known to shop with the kiddos when we are desperate for diapers or milk, or even to get out of the house. As they grow it gets easier, but going out with young ones that are potty training is never easy, but back to the point....

It's worth a try to go into these boutiques because even though, the normal prices for a trench coat (retail $200+) are out of a range I like to spend, you just might happen upon a deal!! I found this one on sale for $34 at Augusta Twenty!!

Classic Red Handbag...a must!

I've been looking for a classic red handbag for awhile now that would suit my needs and wouldn't break the bank and I've found it!!!!! And of course I'm sharing the news with you because that's what friends are for :) The red handbag has been around forever in a variety of styles. It wears with almost everything and depending on the bag, you can carry it throughout the day into the evening.

My requirements, for a purse, have moved past the diaper bag stage, but I still like a bag to be roomy {for kid items}, have a tote or shoulder option {b/c I like to carry it both ways depending on my needs at the time}, and to stand on it's own {this is not a "must", but I prefer bags that when set on the floor, they keep their shape}. So here it is....

Closet Makeover...Jewelry Takeover

This summer I've slowly been working on a closet makeover. Really not fun so far. I'm just going through the clothes that don't fit, putting them in piles for giveaway, to sell, or to alter, etc. There's a Container Store that has opened at a mall near me and I can't wait to visit. I dream of a closet with all matching hangers, a cute chandelier, and a sitting area.

Return from Vacay...

Well, we are back from vacation. Sorry for the lack of posts last week, but that is why. I had good intentions to write a few posts and once we arrived in Florida, I abandoned all good intentions...including my good diet intentions. I ate like the calories didn't count and now feeling full and happy from vacation, with about five extra pounds! haha.

But really, I decided to turn it into research for my blog...that way at least the five pounds did not go to waste! I found a yummy sweets store called Meyers House of Sweets that serves homemade ice cream, homemade fudge and other homemade treats.

They are on facebook here and the service was excellent! They have delicious treats including but not limited to homemade coconut ice cream {my personal favorite!}, key lime fruit slices, and creamsicle and key lime fudge!

I thought you might want to know about it, because they SHIP to your door! So you can have the same heavenly treats as well!

And since I ate like a pig on vacation, I added a cute little pig pandora charm to my bracelet to remember what a great week I had....and you know what?....the extra pounds were worth it!

but notice how they are on the casual side?...they are perfect with a pair of leggings and a sweater or if you want to "dress down" a fancy dress. They are a much needed boot, but won't fit every single outfit or occasion.

So that leads me to these tall brown boots....

Halogen

They are a little bit fancier than the previous pair. With this more streamlined pair, you are able to keep a dressy look going, instead of making it look too casual. {I've noticed these types are more difficult to find....so if you find some you like, snatch them up!}

Then there are the boots with western flair....

Western Boot

This is a classic, must-have boot for your closet. It goes with almost everything, dresses, skirts, pants...and on the occasions that you are invited to a backyard bbq or western themed party, you are set!

I have a pair of Frye western boots, but am saving my pennies for the first two types of boots that I mentioned! Hope to add them to my wardrobe soon, even if you are only adding one pair a year, you will thank me later. These are classics that are sure to stay in style! And that's just in one color. You need more in black, grey, etc...just sayin'.

Yes, can you believe it?! My post is about getting prepped for back to school!! Summer has flown by, and I'm already shopping for supply lists and for back to school necessities for each child. Two in elementary school this year and two in preschool! Anyway, there is a long list of non-exciting things that I have to purchase, such as glue sticks and crayons, but I also want to do a back to school treat for each child and here are some ideas that I found...

Thanks for being patient with me as I'm returning to normal life after last week's wedding events. My sister in law was a beautiful bride and we even managed to have all four kids walk down the aisle without disruption! I was so relieved.

So anyway, after a week full of events, I'm walking around in a fog this week, trying to rest and catch up with household chores, etc, which brings me to today's post....quick and healthy recipes!

I discovered this cookbook by Cooking Light, called Fresh Food Fast, and I love it because the recipes require five ingredients and are healthy. After rushing around last week, I'm needing to cook a few of these meals this week to prove to my family that I still do cook.

I'm looking forward to cooking this Sherried Pineapple Pork and a few others. This book should help during the busy school year as well! With over 280 recipes to choose from, it should last me awhile.

Also, this Tomato Salad is making my mouth water! Can't wait to fix it...

And last but not least, something sweet to finish it off...Orange Sorbet, anyone??....

foyer at a standstill.

Do you ever have those projects that just seem to linger on and on? Well, for me right now, it is the foyer. I ordered three wallpaper swatches and didn't really love any of them. So then I think I want to have a chocolate color added in the front somehow but need to either search for wallpaper that I like or maybe a paint color {but don't want it to turn out too dark}.

On top of that, remember the mirror that I loved? Well, we hung it up in the foyer and it seems too small. ARGH. So that didn't work out as much as I was hoping.

But on the bright side, I found some great little lamps at Target. They capture a modern feel and I loved the cute linen style shades that were also available at the same store.

So the mirror was a bummer, but the lamps are great. I'm actually on a totally new plan for the walls...I found this pic of a chocolate brown foyer and fell in love with it. So I think the mirror will actually look better with a darker wall color. Then my plan is to paint the same brown color in our soon to be "mud room" above the bead board that will hopefully be put in by the end of summer.

The paint color used here is Benjamin Moore Bittersweet Chocolate, so that's the one I'm going to try. Also, on a sidenote, I'm in LOVE with the sunburst mirror...almost makes me want to change mirrors again. Any suggestions?

another celebrity target line...

Well, another celebrity is marketing a line of clothing for tweens and younger kiddos at Target....it's Gwen Stefani.

Her adult fashion label, L.A.M.B., has obviously made a name for itself and with higher priced items such as a bag for $300+ or a dress for $400+, the younger children's clothing line at Target will come in a pleasing price range of $3.99-$29.99.

I will be interested in seeing the quality of the clothing and how the designs turn out. She's got a rocker chic edge that I like in her adult fashion line, but not sure how that translates into the kids styles. It will be fun to watch and see. Let me know what you think!
